What God Tells Me About the Money We Made a god

Reflection
Money carries the words “In God We Trust,” but in truth, it has become the god of this world. It is not trust in God but trust in currency that most people live by—chasing after it, fearing its absence, measuring others by its weight. This paper and metal are worshiped as if they hold life itself, yet they are nothing more than symbols of greed, fear, and control.
I confess I’ve been caught in that chase, too—thinking that if I could just earn enough, I’d finally secure peace for my family and purpose for myself. But every time I chose money over mission, I felt empty. Every time I gave myself away for dollars, I carried a burden heavier than any debt.
The truth is simple: money is not God. It cannot bless, heal, or forgive. It can only buy temporary comfort. The love of money is the root of evil because it replaces God with fear—fear of not having enough, fear of not being enough. God calls me to remember: He is the source. The mission comes first.
Personal Confession
There’s a burden I’ve placed on myself by choosing mission over money. I have stretched myself thin, given more than I should, and often felt my wife carry the weight of my decisions. I see her fear, her frustration, and her love. And I know she deserves to hear this truth from me: I am trying to let go of the money-god. I want to stop giving myself away to it.
So this is a sealed letter to her:
I know you worry. I know you want stability. I know I’ve failed to provide in the way the world measures provision. But I want you to know that my heart has always chosen mission first, even when it cost us. And I promise, with God’s help, I will find the balance. Not by chasing money, but by trusting Him to provide as I follow His path. I love you, and I need you beside me in this fight.
Scripture
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
— Matthew 6:24
Leadership Principle
A leader who worships money will sacrifice people. A leader who worships God will sacrifice money to serve people. True stewardship means lifting others, not trading their commitment for profit. The measure of leadership is not wealth—it is trust, respect, and love.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I bowed to the false god of money. Help me see wealth not as power, but as a tool to bless others. Teach me to trust Your provision, even when fear tempts me to take control. Let my heart be aligned with You, not with greed.
A Father’s Blessing
My sons, may you never be chained by money. Let it serve you, never master you. Your worth is not in what you own but in who you are before God. Choose mission over money, and you will live free.
