What God Tells Me About Endurance

What do you do when the people around you stumble, falter, or even step away… and the mission is still in your hands?

Do you slow down to match their pace? Do you get frustrated and carry bitterness? Or do you dig in, steady your footing, and keep moving forward?

There are moments in life and leadership when the people around you stumble. Some make mistakes. Some get sidelined by sickness. Others step back under pressure. And suddenly, the weight of the mission rests heavier on your shoulders.

In those moments, frustration can rise. It’s easy to ask, “Why am I the only one still pressing forward?” But God reminds us: endurance isn’t just about pressing on — it’s about faith in motion.

Think about Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. His closest friends couldn’t even stay awake to pray with Him. On the way to the cross, they scattered. Yet still, He pressed on. Why? Because the mission mattered more than their faltering.

But here’s the deeper truth: endurance is not only about carrying the weight yourself. It’s also about lifting others up while you carry it. When those around you stumble, it becomes your duty to steady them, encourage them, and help them rise again. Whether they are pressing you down with their weight or simply being pushed down by life, God calls you to be the one who holds the line until relief comes.

That’s the essence of leadership: not waiting for someone else to step in, but standing in the gap until they can rejoin the mission.

What Endurance in Leadership Looks Like

  • When mistakes happen, you don’t let them derail the mission — you teach and restore.

  • When sickness sidelines someone, you cover their role so they don’t fall behind.

  • When others bow out under pressure, you lean on God’s strength and steady the team until they can return.

This is not endurance for pride. It is endurance for love. It is saying, “I will carry the weight, not because I must prove myself, but because God entrusted me to lead with grace until others can stand again.”

Scripture to Hold On To

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me strength when others falter. When I feel the weight grow heavy, remind me that You are my source of endurance. Give me compassion to carry others with me, not in bitterness but in love. Help me to lead with steadiness, holding the line until they can stand again. May my endurance reflect Your faithfulness.

Reflection Question

Who in your life right now needs you not only to endure, but to lift them up until they can walk again?

The Watchman shares devotionals pressed on the heart by God, written to guide, encourage, and remind readers of His presence. Like the biblical watchman, the mission is not recognition, but sounding the call to walk in God’s truth with faith and love.
